Artisan Cooperatives

Caracol IV: The Whirlwird of our Words

THESE ARE THE DEMANDS THAT WE ARE FIGHTING FOR:

  •  Land
  • Education
  • Health Care
  • Housing
  • Food
  • Jobs
  • Freedom
  • Justice
  • Democracy
  • Independence
  • Equal Rights for Men and Women
  • Respect for Indigenous People

We demand full recognition of indigenous rights and culture!

This is why we are struggling, and working in collectives allows us to continue this struggle.

We are a network of women’s cooperatives from Caracol IV: The Whirlwind of our Words. There are many communities that make up the region of Caracol IV. In each community we organize into cooperatives in order to have a life of dignity and to support each other. By working together, we are more united and we are able to have a collective fund which we use for the community’s needs.

Zapatista women in each community organize themselves into different types of cooperatives, for example, collective vegetable gardens, bakeries, stores, and artisan cooperatives. We also organize at the regional level to support each other more and to be better organized.

It is important for us to work in artisan cooperatives because it is part of our culture as indigenous people; it represents the traditions of our ancestors. We would like to thank you for purchasing our products. We appreciate your collaboration, the time that you have given and the effort you have made to open up a space for our products.

When we receive payment for our products, we use part of the money to buy materials and continue the work of the cooperative. The rest we use to resolve certain collective needs.

WITH THESE WORDS WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR THE SPACE THAT YOU HAVE OPENED UP FOR US, WE APPRECIATE THE PURCHASES YOU HAVE MADE FROM OUR COMMUNITIES.
